What is carbon fibre?
Carbon fibre is composed of very thin fibres comprised of carbon atoms. These carbon atoms are bonded together within microscopic crystals, aligned parallel to the long axis of the fibre. It is this structure that provides its unprecedented strength. It has the best weight to strength ratio, stronger than steel, yet so very light. It is one of the most recent developments in the field of composite material, a new breed of high-strength materials. It has lead to the development of other composite materials.
